LIVING ESSENCE

is devoted to helping people find their Human Essence and cultivating it for  an improved quality of life, no matter what their age, physical or mental condition. There are many interventions and techniques that can be used but I keep the approach as simple and practical as possible, demystifying some of the traditional methods. If I cannot directly help I have many friends and colleagues who can be referred to.

Basically my job is to EDUCATE and INFORM you in the most interesting and stimulating way so that you can discover your own potential.

At Living Essence I sincerely believe you can learn for yourself what your need to know for a truly meaningful and joyful existence.

All living things have one thing in common; they have a “point of consciousness”. Without it nothing would not be “alive” or be able to communicate within itself and with other living things in the Universe. This consciousness is our SPIRIT or SOUL– that aspect of every living thing which is given by “creation”, some would say the Creator or God. In this respect all living things are DIVINE, God-like. Maybe this is really what the religous texts meant when they said God created us in his own image?! ! It allows every living thing to feel in a sense that it radiates the knowledge of life or Life Force. This Life Force or Consciousness is therefore the Essence of all Living things.

However, Humans have an additional quality, and this is “Self-Consciousness”. Humans not only “know”, but “know that they know”.  In religious terms this was the advent of Adam and Eve but the self consciousness was interpreted as being ashamed, embarrassment and sin! Therefore I prefer to use the term Self-Awareness. It does not negate us from the rest of Nature and the SPIRIT of life; we are not separate or above the consciousness of the Universe as some scientists would postulate. Humans can just operate at another level.

We should grow both in Spirit and Self-Awareness as we go through our Earthly Life. This doesn’t always happen in the right way or follow the right path and so many Humans find it difficult to achieve Harmony and Unity. This is evident because we suffer from many illnesses and disease, which are self generated. Our journey is not meant to be smooth, there are many ups and downs, but just like a wave in the ocean it can be more calm than tumultuous. So Earthly Life can be more or less of a struggle depending on how we mange ourselves and our environment.

I am devoting my learning and this website to the pursuit of MINDFUL LIVING, whereby we can live in harmony and unity with the world and ourselves. When we find that moment when time seems to stand still and beauty and grace effortlessly reveal themselves, there is a glorious space which is filled with joy, love and peace. The amazing thing is at this moment we feel as if doing nothing, just flowing with life. And it is at this moment when a big shift has occurred that tears also flow, as if to cleanse the soul not just the eyes, truly we see more clearly in every way.

In this modern world it is just not possible to stay in this blissful state all the time, and we were not meant too! Without friction there is no progress, no jewel created, no mirror polished. Through difficulties and failure, although not planned, we become stronger, and resilient. And through meditation we become purer; for all impurity comes from the outside as contamination whereas purity arises from the inside as contemplation and reflection.

"Psychological "mindfulness" is broadly conceptualize as a kind of non-elaborative, non-judgmental, present-centred awareness in which each thought, feeling, or sensation that arises in the attentional field is acknowledged and accepted as it is. A two-component operational definition of "mindfulness is proposed. The first component involves the self-regulation of attention so that it is maintained on immediate experience, thereby allowing for increased recognition of mental events in the present moment. The second component involves adopting a particular orientation toward one’s experiences in the present moment, an orientation that is characterized by curiosity, openness, and acceptance."

Mindfulness training can be free from any rigid philosophic or religious content, and therefore is for anybody and everybody. However it may have its roots in certain “spiritual practices” from the East. It is mostly practiced purely in the belief that it can improve both physical and mental health. Since it can almost certainly have no ill effects, anyone can undertake it, whatever religious beliefs they happen to hold or if they hold none at all. Mindfulness may eliminate sickness of a psychosomatic nature and improve the health generally. In fact Clinical research shows mindfulness techniques can help alleviate anxiety, stress, and depression.

I have attached documents for further reading by going to Downloads, which gives a more in depth account of certain kinds of mindfulness practiced in the West from Eastern origins.

However, for me one of the most relevant symbols of our time that has helped me interpret what I have experienced and understood, and apply it to everyday life is that of T’AI CHI. It is without doubt all encompassing and integrates so well with other ancient wisdom and philosophy from around the world. T’ai Chi enabled me to become a “spiritual warrior”. It suited my character as I have always been a warrior at heart rather than an intellect or technocrat. In my career I have preferred management to business, the latter too steeped in power, politics and strategy. In science I have always looked for evidence rather than proof and it has always needed to make sense and be practically useful. I could never be a monk, escaping from the world, but must find a way to contribute in a practical way that is simpler not complicated. I like to go straight to the point and not beat about the bush, be specific not general. I always seek harmony over ambition and prefer not to judge anyone but look for underlying reasons how things have got to where they are right now. No one is perfect in what they do but we can still strive to be perfect in consciousness, pure in nature. My “Pillars” for mindful living are RIGHT CONSCIOUSNESS, RIGHT ATTITUDE, RIGHT INTENTION AND RIGHT ACTION.

I would like to share the practice of LIVING MINDFULY from the following perspectives:
